Remember, Ice Hockey is undeniably the fastest sport in the world (with two feet on a surface). When you have a team of Skilled Hockey Players who skate like the wind and move the puck with quick accuracy, you have 'Team Speed'. Team Speed wins games.

If we all agree that NHL teams are constantly looking for the Skilled Hockey Player(s), then we should try to understand how a player should train to become a Skilled Hockey Player. MMSP is a Scientific Plan on how to become a Skilled Hockey Player.

MMSP is so defined that Skating, Stickhandling, and Muscle deficiencies are easily detectable, therefore an MMSP action plan to correct the deficiency(s) can be executed.

You will not become a Skilled Hockey player by focusing on:

  • Playing a lot of hockey games.
  • Playing up an age category.
  • Practicing drills only.
  • Participating in off-ice conditioning.
  • Practicing systems.

To become a 'Skilled Hockey Player'

  • You must train all the Muscle Memory Skill Patterns in combination (skating, stickhandling, passing and shooting) needed to play the game of Hockey. The training must then be moved into 'one-on-one battles' to simulate game play. Once a set of skills has been mastered they must then be practiced in game like situations or 1 on 1 battles.

  • You must focus on a 'Skill' Pattern, not a 'Drill' Pattern. Are you practicing game-related patterns? Game-related would be defined as 5 players on the opposing team wanting the puck and therefore always applying pressure on the decisions you make. Your decision making will be directly related to how you practice.

  • You must focus on 'Skill' Patterns used in 'One-on-One Battles'. If not, you are not practicing how the game is played.
